{DIY Tutorial: from buttons to earrings!}

It's so sad that I have not been able to blog lately and it will be like this for some time since starting nursing school. :( I am sorry for absence but I have to set my priorities in order and blogging isn't on the top of the list. I have also put my etsy shop on vacation a few weeks ago because of my hectic schedule but I plan on opening it up again-hopefully soon.

Today though, I wanted to share an easy DIY tutorial to create some pretty earrings because I just made these and you can to!
I went to Joann's and grabbed a bunch of buttons which were half off and since I don't sew too many things that require buttons, I wanted to transform these into something else. So, I figured these could be some really great earrings.

With that thought, I also bought some flat earring posts and backs.
First, I took the backs of the "buttons" off using heavy duty cutters.

Then, I glued the earring posts to the backs of the "buttons" using E-6000.

I then let them dry, and TA-DA!
A pair of earrings!
Simple as that.

Buttons & Bow Ties!! {Sneak Peek}

My baby shower for little Levi is just around the corner! (Where the heck did the time go?!) With the help of my mom and mother-in-love :), the invites were finally all put together and sent out, the cake has already been ordered, & the decor is well on it's way to being completed (although there is still lots to do!)
This morning at 4am, little man kept kicking me non-stop after I rolled over and apparently woke him up...so...he made a point to wake me up & he sure succeeded! Since then, I have been working on projects for the baby shower this morning and I wanted to share a sneak peek at some of the details!!

Some of my favorite quotes from baby books, songs, and nursery rhymes when I was a little girl.
There will be one in each of the centerpieces at each table :)

Sneak Peek: Baby Shower Invitations

I have decided {like most of my other decisions about projects} that I can't seem to find the PERFECT invitations for my baby shower in September...sooo I'm making them myself!!! Ay yi yi, sometimes my pickiness really can add up to toooo much to do but I can't help it! Although I am not throwing my own shower, I HAVE to be apart of the decor & planning. That's all there is to it! lol
I already have the layout of the invitations done and what I want the stationary to look like so now it's a matter of printing and putting together all of the other little details that computer printing just can not do.
Here is a small sneak peek at what will be added to the invitations and some inspiration for my little man's baby shower :)

**All the other details will be kept a secret until they have been completed & sent out**

{Enjoy}

LA Fabric District Finds :)

On Saturday morning of June 18, 2011, I took a trip down to the LA fabric district with my grandma in search for some good finds...and boy did we! The first store we went into my mouth dropped and my grandma said, "Wow! We are like kids in a candy store!" There were aisles upon aisles of different trimmings (incl. lace which is my favorite!!), ribbons, appliques, buttons, jewlery, you name it!! We even got lost trying to find the restroom within all of the aisles! Here are just a FEW pictures I took looking up to the ceiling with appliques and ribbons:
We spent about 5 and a half hours in the fabric district and these are some things I brought home with me :) Enjoy!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is probably my favorite buy of the day (& most expensive...shhh)!!! It's SILK and beautiful and oh so feminine!! I was told I have expensive taste by the seller but it's gorgeous and soft...how can you not fall in love with this fabric?
I bought this ivory lace trimming with pearl strings. I use it in hairpieces :)
I bought this elastic type of lace to make little headbands with :)
I bought lots more buttons where these came from :) The majority of them were made in italy & france. I will use them for the center of flower hairpieces.
75 cents a yard for this ivory lace trimming!!
I fell in love with this vintage like lace :) & for 50 cents a yard...I was SOLD! Can you tell I'm just a bit obsessed with lace? lol
More lace ... :D
This pink floral cotton fabric and shimmery pink fabric are what I am currently making a little girls ruffled skirt out of :) It should be done in a couple more days!
I also bought lots of fabric for the nursery :) I still have another fabric I have to buy...something that's light brown but I bought the bulk of it and will start making the leaves for the tree on the wall as well as a little pillow (made with the fabric on top) and I'm sure I can find other things to make in the nursery as well with left over fabric :)
The last find of the day came when my grandma and I got lost trying to find our way home (darn LA freeways)! We were lead to an Olympic Donut shop where we gorged on some ham and cheese croissants and I also endulged on a large chocolate shake!!! YUMMM!!! It certainly was a great day!!! :D

Cute as a Button

I am helping to plan an outdoor baby shower in July. We aren't sure if the baby is a boy or girl yet so we are just brainstorming different themes that are neutral to both sexes. One theme I think is great is "Cute as a Button."
I have found many ideas to incorporate this theme throughout the baby shower from invitations, decorations, desserts, and more!

Here are some cute "button" invitations I have found:

Or this adorable cupcake idea? :) I have 2 cupcake towers that I plan on using for the baby shower & these would look perfect arranged on them!

Or these?

Button flowers! :)

For the tables, this napkin idea is quite cute! The straws in the mason jars are fun as well!

There are so many different ways to create this theme into a baby and can easily be a great DIY event! Many other themes are on our mind as well but this is one of my favorites! More to come :)
